About Sarah

I'm a traditional artist and photographer based in Bournemouth, Dorset. I've been drawing since I was first able to hold a pencil, and still love creating art 30 years later! I've worked in variety of media over the years, including pencil, acrylic and watercolour paints. These days I'm best known for pen and ink work and dog photography.

I've always been more drawn to portraiture than any other art form, and this is reflected in my work whether the subject is human or animal, and regardless of the medium I work in. It's all in the eyes.

My focus and passion for my work is undoubtedly dogs, though it's nice to divert and feature other subjects every so often! I have extensive experience working with dogs in a variety of settings including dog day care, kennel work, obedience training, and grooming.

Sarah Lake Studios started in 2016 (previously 'Sarah Lake Illustrations') and originally consisted of commissioned traditional artwork of pets belonging to people across the world. Since then it has grown to include photography as well, and has become much more than a sideline hobby! The name 'Sarah Lake Studios' came from the desire to incorporate both the traditional art and photographic sides of what I do into one name. I don't currently have a photography studio but I hope to one day in the not too distant future! The name reminds me of this goal and, in the meantime, encompasses both aspects of what I do. Though it's still early days, I have big plans!

About Gatsby

Gatsby is my Lakeland Terrier who joined the family in March 2013. He's my number one model and is ever so tolerant of being asked to stay put and pose for photos when we're out and about. He loves a good romp in the woods, but is equally satisfied sprawling out on the bed/sofa for some downtime - especially if there are some head scratches involved!
